Walnut

Walnuts are the fruit of any tree from the genus Juglans. While scientifically, walnuts are classified as stone fruits rather than true botanical nuts, they are referred to in the culinary world as tree nuts. While walnuts are green as they grow and then ripen to a pale yellow. Once fully ripened, they fall from the walnut tree. They’re harvested from the ground, where the outer husk is first removed, leaving a hard shell. That hard outer shell is removed or shelled, to reveal the nutmeat inside.

Walnuts have a wealth of the good kind of fats -- polyunsaturated fats, which are better for you than saturated fats. They also have a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Studies have shown that eating walnuts can help lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol in particular, but also lower your cholesterol overall. Walnuts have been touted as the ‘brain food’ because they resemble one. Research has proved that consuming walnuts regularly improves brain function. Walnuts are easy to add to the diet, and they are very rich in nutritional content.
